About the event

This is a 6-week series intended for people interested in exploring and developing their body-mind-heart relationship through embodied movement practices. Gabby and Jess will provide somatic (body-based) experiences and dance practices rooted in guided, free movement to help you arrive home in your body and tap into its innate pathways for healing. This series has a special focus on exploring the emotions living in our bodies to ease stress, reduce anxiety and bridge the gap between our mind, our body, and our emotions in an embodied way.  Jessica is a psychotherapist and yoga practitioner with over 10 years of experience helping individuals learn to safely inhabit their bodies after traumatic or overwhelming experiences. Gabby is a gifted somatic dancer with over 15 years of experience learning the benefits of engaging with the body to release, emote, and heal from traumatic and stressful events.

In our culture today there is a common misconception that avoiding negative experiences and compartmentalizing ourselves to separate from what we dislike is easier. This is often why we see a rise in addiction, self-medication, avoidance of true feelings and lack of emotional connection with self and others. The opposite of this type of dissociative living is embodiment.

Embodiment is about feeling your own aliveness in your skin through sensations as you move through the world. Embodied practices help us stay present internally while experiencing life. Embodied movement is a path that helps us take life on life’s terms and hone our capacity to stay connected to ourselves and the world around us even when it is unpleasant, scary, dull, overloaded and everything in between.

Over the course of 6 weeks, you will be guided through dance and movement styles that you can use to move away from “stressing about things” and instead practice movements that help relieve stress and encourage your well-being. In this course we will slow down. Pause. Consciously breathe. Feel our skin and move in ways that are not just routinized but are instead endlessly authentic. This will provide a pathway to express emotions, experiences, and responses so that they are not stifled or truncated but are able to freely flow. This course helps you stay connected to what is true in your mind and heart. Allowing you to fully feel.
